New quiet book available

My newly designed Bible Quiet book is now available in my shop!

The purpose of this kind of toy is to help a very young child sit still and play quietly.

Another person has nicely described a quiet book as:

"a set of fabric activity pages bound together with the intent of instilling calmness and restful playtime for babies and toddlers in the event of the numberless boring adult occasions that require a hushed atmosphere." 

Such an important thing to teach! So many people today don't have respect for another when they are speaking. Learning to be quiet and to listen is one of those golden apples in a silver bowl!

This new quiet book is patterned after the theme of the many different names for the Lord Jesus found in the Bible. The activities included are: shape match, snapping, puzzles, tucking, finger puppets, buttoning, moving beads on a string and texturized pages. 

I have also included a reference sheet with scripture passages for each of the "names for the Lord Jesus".  This could be used in teaching your child these important Bible lessons.

The title on the cover is hand embroidered. Throughout the book my hand and machine stitching is combined to present a durable and pleasing product. Rings with grommets bind the book and a strap with a large snap keep it closed when not in use.

Thanksgiving Quiet Book with finger puppets

Now available a two page Quiet Book with handles for easy transport. Pockets along inside lower edge to store finger puppets. Hand stitched using embroidery stitches from my original pattern.

I've been having fun making little finger puppets. To help teach little ones about the first Thanksgiving this adorable set of five puppets are hand embroidered from my original pattern. Made with craft felt and floss  each stands between 2 1/4” and 2 1/2” tall. 

Mary had a Little Lamb booklet with finger puppets

My latest product in my Etsy Store is the newly designed two page fabric quiet book and matching finger puppets.  This includes "Mary had a little lamb" booklet with the full poem, one Mary puppet and one lamb puppet.  There are pockets on the inside of the booklet for puppet storage and carrying handles for easy transport.   There is also available a PDF digital download for those who would like to get the pattern and instructions to make this project for their own personal use or as a gift.

Sarah Hale wrote this nursery rhythm around 1830 inspired by an actual incident with a little pet sheep. Children have been singing this song in their play for generations.  Once again Mary and her little lamb can delight the young and the young at heart.

I had a lot of fun with the many hours of handwork and embroidery represented in these ten pages.

After watching my own granddaughters play with the quiet books I made for them, I decided to design the ones I would sell a little differently. Mainly, I do not have lots of little pieces that can get lost or have to be picked up. Especially if this book is used as a tool for teaching small children to sit still in church. There are finger puppets on the last page that are removable, however.  The main activities are flaps with objects hidden underneath or pieces that tuck into another piece. These are attached with a ribbon. The little bee slides up and down the ribbon above the flowers as do the bead "raindrops" above the ark.

I have also included a reference sheet under plastic on the back page with scripture passages for each activity page. This could be used as a starting place in teaching your child these important Bible stories and lessons.

New Quiet book in the works . . .

Working on the last page of a toddler age level Quiet Book to sell in my Etsy store. (Not for sale yet, but soon!)

This page will feature finger puppets - lions and of course, Daniel, the Hebrew prophet and wise man who spent this life as a captive at the court of Babylon. He interpreted the dreams of Nebuchadnezzar and was delivered by God from the lions' den into which he had been thrown as the result of a trick.

What do you think of Daniel with a fat mustache? I wonder if those lions were quite

that happy about NOT getting their dinner?

Mini Bible theme quiet book

 This busy book is focused more on the simple side of activity for each page.  Everything movable is attached by a ribbon so pieces cannot be lost.  Joseph's coat of many colors is a 'snap on', the baby Jesus in a manager, is a piece fitting into a pocket.  Daniel in the lion's den has a movable lion, the ark for Noah is also movable fitting into the waves in various places. The empty tomb and three crosses, is my own design, and has a movable stone revealing the empty grave clothes.  One thing I learned watching my little granddaughters use this book is the wiggly eyes are not very desirable because some children really want to pick them off.  Even though I attached them with hot glue. I have taken to embroidering the eyes on instead.  I did slide a lightweight piece of cardboard in-between the pages to give a harder 'book feel' to this soft book.

So the Quiet Book continues although now we are thinking of using these pages while doing some preschool homeschooling. Some are geared toward color recognition, numbers 1-15, the stages of the butterfly and other 3 and 4 year old skills.
